Abstract

The objectives of this study are in identifying the awareness, implementation, perceived effectiveness, and potential future adoption of seven operational improvement initiatives based on Malaysia context and the perceived effectiveness level impact towards the awareness and future adoption of each initiative. Ten employee development initiatives being studied include: Communication Strategy, Employee Performance Management, Human Resource Information System, Improvement Team, Knowledge Management, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Recruitment and Selection, Rewards and Recognitions, Succession Planning and Training and Development. This study was conducted due to lack of existing studies on status of awareness, implementation, effectiveness, and future adoption of improvement initiatives in Malaysia. Questionnaires were distributed to 120 practitioners, managers, executives, consultants and/or academicians who have been involved in the selection and/or implementation of improvement initiatives, which resulted in a response rate of 33.3%. Subsequently, the data were analysed using the IBM SPSS software package. The findings of study indicated that Rewards and Recognition has been the most popular initiative in term of awareness and implementation in which for implementation, it tied with Communication Strategy, Improvement Team and Recruitment and Selection. Training and Development has been ranked as the most effective initiative. Meanwhile, Communication Strategy has been ranked as the most wanted initiative for future adoption. The findings of study have also shown that Human Resource Information System has the strongest positive relationship in term of its effectiveness that impact the awareness level while Employee Performance Management shows the strongest significance between the effectiveness level variable towards its impact to future adoption.
