Abstract

Awareness of Malaysian consumers is increasingly about health and they prefer to purchase organic food. However, it is difficult to understand the consumers’ perception on quality of organic food. Therefore, this study proposes to identify the consumers’ perception of the quality of organic food as well as to examine the difference in terms of age, gender and education qualification among Malaysian Consumers. This study utilizes the dimension of food quality in the Total Food Quality Model which is sensory characteristics, health, convenience, and process. This research is a quantitative type of survey. The respondents were 302 Malaysian members under community groups of organic food on Facebook. The data collected were analyzed through SPSS software. The result showed that consumers perceived that the health was the most important dimension on the quality of organic food. The independent variables were gender, age, and education qualification. Meanwhile, the dependent variable was the consumer’s perception of the quality of organic food. The result displayed gender that no significance with consumer’s perception on the quality of organic food. Besides that, the age and education qualification were significant difference with the consumer’s perception on the quality of organic foods. The result also demonstrated the consumers are 41 – 50 years old and higher education qualification has more positive perception toward organic food in Malaysia. This finding of this study will help to provide information and insight on the quality of organic food for future study.
