Abstract

The purpose of this study is to address the application of values stream mapping tool in lean operation to reduce the seven types of waste and lead time. This process involves the improvement in the production process looking the source of waste in current states maps. Future state maps developed according to VSM application within the lean manufacturing paradigm. The main objective of this research is to identify the common waste existed in manufacturing industry. In this research, the lean manufacturing implemented in the furniture manufacturing industry especially to identify the waste happened in the production area and to reduce the activities of NVA and lead time. Staff and workers of Perusahaan Tukang Kayu A.Hamid Sdn Bhd will become respondents during the interviews and data collection through the observation. Final result showed that the total production lead time and NVA time were successfully decreased from 3432 minutes and 2420 minutes, respectively. The finding of this study indicates that VSM is an efficient and effective approach to eliminate the waste and improve the process operation. In addition, other lean manufacturing methods that are also applied in this study are Kaizen Burst, 5S, Plant Layout and one-piece flows to reduce waste and lead time.
