Abstract

Business excellence (BE) is a very crucial tool for organisations to improve their quality management. However, SMEs seems to face issues in implementing business excellence compared to MNCs due to less resources and exposure on BE. Thus, understanding the suitable business excellence enablers to be implemented in order to achieve an outstanding performance is crucial for SMEs and MNCs. This study aimed to determine the business excellence enablers influencing the performance between SMEs and MNCs. There were six enablers utilized in this study which were; (1) Leadership, (2) Strategic Planning, (3) Customer Focus, (4) People, (5) Process, and also (6) Information whereas the dependent variable which was Business Performance was also discovered in this study. A total population of 80 respondents from three SMEs and three MNCs were identified and according to Krejcie and Morgan, sample size of 66 were needed but only 60 respondents were obtained. Purposive sampling technique were used during the distribution of questionnaire and SPSS was also employed in this study to analyse data and generate outcomes. Based on research outcomes, customer focus practices had the highest mean of 6.29 which was classified as high level mean. As for the comparison analysis, it was found that only strategic planning and information were significant (p<0.05) but overall MNCs obtained higher mean ranks compared to SMEs. Customer focus and people obtained the highest correlation coefficient of 0.475 (p<0.05) and 0.478 (p<0.05) and were significant towards business performance of SMEs and MNCs. This research study was also conducted as a guidance for both SMEs and MNCs to improve their business performance in the future.
