Abstract

Entrepreneurial network (EN) plays an important role for business entity as it facilitates a communication between two or more enterprises by exchanging their thoughts and experiences. EN is viewed as an inherent tool to stabilize business in market position especially for small-size enterprises. Despite the importance of EN, there are scarce studies focusing on how EN enhancing the performance of small and medium-sized enterprise (SME). Thus, this study seeks to explore the EN development in term of types, roles and extent of EN in SMEs and its significance to the SMEs performance. To fulfil this aim, quantitative research was adopted, where data were collected using a questionnaire survey among SMEs owner/managers in manufacturing industry. Using a purposive sampling method, this study has gathered 74 completed responses. The principal reason for this type of firm connecting to EN has to do with the possibility of growing and lengthen the firm’s life. The results indicates that identification opportunity, sharing information, communication and innovation and cost reduction have significant influences on SME performances. Meanwhile marketing strategy seems have insignificant impact on SME performance. This study highlights the EN current activities and also provides a new empirical evidence on the relationship between EN and performance within the Malaysia SMEs context.
