Abstract

Facility layout arrangement is one of the factors that can give a significant impact on the company’s performance. Poor implementation of facilities arrangement can lead to ineffective and inefficient work system which may limit the rate of productivity, poor utilization of resources, high rate of rejection and many more. For the company of this study, which is Munivac Sdn. Bhd., they are dealing with a congestion problem on their production floor. The problem limits and slowdown their movement which can make the working system became inefficient. Thus, this study is conducted in order to solve the problem by proposing several solutions to the company. The study constraints are within the whole department which is Kestrel Line. Data collection are done by using several methods such as observation, interviews and measurement. A measuring tool been used in this study which is by using measuring tape to measure the distance of process flow, size of machines and space between machine to machines. The performance of each alternatives are calculated by comparing the total distance. Based on the criteria related to process flow this study has successfully generated three layout alternatives which are ideal alternative 1 which is based on centralized location, alternative 2 based on material handling, and alternative 3 based on smooth movement and space utilization. The performance of each alternatives are calculated by comparing the total distance of process flow between actual layout and alternatives layout which is being measured by using measuring tape as a measuring tool for this study. From the evaluation, alternative 3 is selected as it provide the highest percent of improvements. As a conclusion, alternative proposed is not only has reducing the congestion level of the company but also increase its performance.
