Abstract

Every manufacturing company wants to improve and adapt their operating system in order to survive the industry competition. Assembly line balancing is to know how tasks are to be assigned to workstations, so that the predetermined goal is achieved. Minimization of the number of workstations and maximization of the production rate are the most common goals. This paper presents the reviews of different works in the area of assembly line balancing and tries to find out latest developments and trends available in industries in order to minimize the total equipment cost and number of workstations at AX Furniture Sdn. Bhd. This study proposed to improve the workstation in assembly line by using ARENA simulation software, which the main aim is to reduce the number of operation in the workstation and to reduce the workers followed by suggesting the improvement way to achieved excellent result in the production. The methods used for the research is qualitative which the process flow of the process was observed and the data was collected according from the needs of the ARENA simulation. ARENA simulation was built according to the data collected and the results were analyzed and other simulation was built with improvement to comprised the result. A case study in a household appliance company was considered for reaching the best flow solutions in the refrigerators assembly line.
